The British Computer Society (Isle of Man) are pleased to announce the next event in their 2005/6 annual programme, on Thursday 27th April. This is a tour of the MEA's Pulrose Power Station in Douglas. Because of logistics and health & safety, numbers will be strictly limited to just 40.

This will therefore be a MEMBERS ONLY event, and if numbers are exceeded we will allocate places to those who reply first. You should therefore only attend after receiving confirmation that you have actually been allocated a place.

Upon arrival please park in the Bowl public car park, then walk over the road bridge to gate No 2 where you will be booked in. Staff will be stationed at this gate from 17:50 to book people in and escort them to the conference room, where a light buffet will be available from 18:00.

PLEASE NOTE that all visitors clothing should include sturdy rubber soled shoes (no trainers or high heeled shoes), long trousers and long sleeved jackets or tops. Visitors will be issued with hearing protection, light eye protection and hard hats . Unfortunately, any visitors who do not comply with these requirements can NOT be admitted. BCS EVENT PHOTO

Note further that the normal tour involves using several flights of steel stair cases, so could any successful applicants please advise of any limited mobility or special requirements? We will liaise with MEA to see if we able to arrange alternative access.

Without dwelling on logistics too much at this point, we will be split into a series of  escorted  groups to cover the following areas:

  • Turbine hall - walk through tour
  • CCGT control room - discussion on installed computer equipment and its function CCGT basics - lecture based introduction to the production of electricity via the CCGT plant.
( CCGT = Combined Cycle Gas Turbine.)

Each delegate will also be given a hand out on the plant.

We anticipate the tour taking 60 - 90 minutes dependant upon audience participation levels.
