Mr Russell May BSc(Hons) CITP CEng MBCS EnCE presented a talk entitled "Third Generation Computer and Network Forensics" on Thursday 23rd September at Villa Marina, Douglas which commenced at 6:30 pm followed by cheese and wine refreshments.
Computer forensics is the application of computer investigation and analysis techniques in the pursuit of legal evidence in a wide range of computer crime or misuse including theft of trade secrets or intellectual property and fraud. Computer specialists can draw on an array of methods for discovering data that resides in a computer system, or recovering deleted, encrypted, or damaged file information. Any or all of this information may help during discovery, depositions, or actual litigation.
Russell May is the holder of a first class honours degree in Computer Science, is a chartered information systems engineer and an elected member of the British Computer Society. Russell worked as a police officer in the West Midlands Police, until he retired in April 2002 as Detective Sergeant officer in charge of the Hi-Tech Crime Unit. He has been involved in investigating computer crime and computer forensics for 15 years and has provided expert testimony in many criminal court cases, involving computers, from simple theft to murder and international terrorism.
