Venue: Hilton Hotel, Central Promenade, Douglas
Date: Tuesday 22nd November 2005
Time: Doors open at 18:00, for an 18:30 start.

Description:

Speakers: Mike Ruane, Andrew P McAuley

Description:

BCS EVENT PHOTO The talk reviewed the differences between the most common normal forms (first, second, and third) for relational databases, the theory of operation of MultiValue or Post-relational databases, and when it is better to use each, with a special emphasis on Post-relational economies and advantages.

We had two distinguished speakers from the MultiValue community on the night:

Mike Ruane, the CEO of Revelation Software - see www.revelation.com - is normally based in Westwood, New Jersey, and has gone to some trouble to incorporate the IOM in his current UK tour schedule. (Revelation products are currently being used in several IOM companies to provide integration of back office administration systems with client facing e-commerce solutions, which may go some way to explaining his willingness to lecture here.) Mike has a BA in Information Processing Systems from Rutgers State University of New Jersey and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He has a long and distinguished background as a developer, trainer, and entrepreneur!

Andrew P McAuley has worked in the Revelation Community since 1983 gaining a reputation for technical excellence without equal as a developer, analyst, and trainer. He speaks frequently at conferences in Europe and the US. Since 1991 he has been MD of Sprezzatura Ltd - www.sprezzatura.com - and he has established his organisation as world leaders in Revelation software projects. He is also a respected technical author, contributing to numerous industry periodicals, editing his own technical journal, REVMEDIA, and developing and electronic newsletter for the MultiValue audience.
